New Ice Company Gives Locals Reason to Celebrate

The DCADC Enterprise Loan Fund made its third loan to Jasper-based ice manufacturer Celebration Ice.

Celebration Ice is owned and operated by Mark Seibert of Ireland, IN. Throughout high school and college, Mark worked as a bagger and delivery man for what was then Jasper Ice Products. After graduating from India Mark and Brent2na State University  with a degree in Marketing, Mark was approached by local business-owners to start making ice here in Jasper. "My father owned his own business in Jasper (Hoosierland Insurance) for many years and I always wanted to follow in his footsteps and do the same thing in the community I've lived in all of my life," Mark said.

With the plant on Newton Street up and running, Celebration Ice can currently pump out up to 5 tons of ice every day, making conventional 7 lb. and 20 lb. bagged ice as well as 10 lb. blocks of ice.

The current ice provider is headquartered in Cincinnati, and delivers ice from Evansville. Mark sees a need for a local ice service that can be more responsive to nearby customers. "Celebration Ice seems like a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community with a local business and provide a service that a company from another state is currently providing." Mark is currently selling his ice to local grocery stores, gas stations, factories, non-profits, and event organizers.

President's Perspective

PM2.5 has been a considerable concern for Dubois County companies.

It is no surprise that being a non-attainment county puts a community under considerably more regulatory scrutiny, costing businesses a considerable amount of time and money.

It's appropriate to extend thanks to all the companies and individuals that worked very hard to pursue initiatives to bring Dubois County back to attainment status.

I sense that area businesses have realized other benefits from initiatives such as no idle zones and will continue to pursue these and other initiatives designed to improve our local air quality.
