IU President Addresses DCADC Annual Meeting

The DCADC hosted its 2008 Annual Meeting on February 15 to a crowd of nearly 200 local business and civic leaders.

Before delivering his keynote address, President McRobbie visited the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.  The center's affiliation with Indiana University's Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center is an excellent example of Indiana University's outreach and engagement.  This relationship should McRobbie Photocreate continuing advances in furthering Dubois County's position as a regional healthcare center.

President McRobbie then noted another project in the works between Indiana University’s Business Research Center and the DCADC.  The Business Research Center will develop an "Economic Dashboard", a statistical interface that will be imbedded in the DCADC’s website to bring the most up-to-date economic data for Dubois County to the fingertips of the public.  This data hub will also serve the DCADC in its efforts to attract investment by enabling current data to be shared with potential investors.

Mr. McRobbie also stressed the importance of building positive relationships with area businesses through internships and coop opportunities.  Students who intern at companies are far more likely to look to that company for full-time employment after graduation than students who have no prior affiliation with the company.  In order to attract young, talented individuals, universities and companies must continue to collaborate to bring practical, real-world experience to students.

President's Perspective

During his address, President McRobbie noted his desire to partner with the Jasper Arts Commission in order to leverage the continuing interest in the arts in Dubois County.  Jasper already supports the only municipal arts department in the state of Indiana and is the only city to have ever brought home the Governor’s Arts Award two years in a row.
