Jasper High School Showcases
Progressive
Curriculum |
Jasper High School and
the DCADC will host an open house on January 15 at 9:00
a.m. to inform the business and education communities of
Project Lead the Way, a hands-on curriculum that brings
to life mathematic concepts by engaging students in
hands-on, activity-based learning. Many of the
schools in our communities and in Indiana have adopted
this program as a way to generate excitement about math,
science, and engineering by showing students how to
apply theoretical knowledge to real-world
projects. Students work on a variety of projects,
from robots to high-mileage cars, all the while
furthering their understanding and exposure to high
level mathematics.

Many industries
requiring a highly-skilled workforce are experiencing
rapid growth or a transformation in skill
requirements. This evolution is creating a
critical shortage of workers with the skills appropriate
to generate a successful and stable economic future for
our region (and our nation).
The implementation of Project Lead the Way is part of
the Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic
Development (WIRED) Initiative, a grant program funded
by the U.S. Department of Labor designed to assist
regions with the development and implementation of
strategies to meet the workforce demands of years to
come. Southwest Indiana applied for and received a
WIRED grant at the beginning of 2007, and is one of 39
"WIRED Regions" in the United States.
If you wish to learn more about WIRED, Project
Lead the Way, and how these initiatives can provide
needed workforce solutions as our economy evolves,
consider attending the event at Jasper High School at
9:00 a.m., January
15. |
