Positive Change in Dubois County Air Quality Status

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has filed a Draft Redesignation Petition and Maintenance Plan in Association with the Annual PM2.5 Standard for the Southwestern Indiana Area.

It appears that when the Petition and Maintenance Plan are adopted, Dubois County will no longer be categorized as non-attainment county.  This is important as it makes expansions of existing companies a little easier and certainly makes the county more attractive to new business interests.

The document and appendices are currently posted at the following link: http://www.in.gov/idem/programs/air/redesignations/index.html.

IDEM will conduct a public hearing on March 27, 2008.  Written comments will be accepted through March 31, 2008.  Comments can be submitted to:

President's Perspective

PM2.5 has been a considerable concern for Dubois County companies.

It is no surprise that being a non-attainment county puts a community under considerably more regulatory scrutiny, costing businesses a considerable amount of time and money.

It's appropriate to extend thanks to all the companies and individuals that worked very hard to pursue initiatives to bring Dubois County back to attainment status.

I sense that area businesses have realized other benefits from initiatives such as no idle zones and will continue to pursue these and other initiatives designed to improve our local air quality.
