DCADC Looks into Certified Kitchen

The DCADC is studying the feasibility of developing a shared-use, certified commercial kitchen to Dubois County.  Since only food prepared in an FDA certified kitchen can be legally sold to the public, a certified kitchen provides a space where food producers can transform recipes into business.

The kitchen could appeal to a wide variety of food producers including caterers, candy makers, and even hobbyists looking to take their barbeque sauce or mustard recipe to the marketplace.  In this way, a certified kitchen acts as a type of business incubator, allowing food makers to overcome the challenging developmental stages of  their business without having to deal with the risk of huge financial commitment at the start.   The certified kitchen would be rented out on an hourly basis, and would require a minimal staff.

The DCADC is conducting a survey to assess the wants and needs of potential users, and to gauge how many potential users are out there.  If you or someone you know would be interested in using the certified kitchen, please direct them to the survey via this link or the DCADC websiteIf you have any questions about the project, please contact mjcummings@DCADC.org.

President’s Perspective

We all know of someone with great recipes and may have told a friend that they would make a mint if they could bottle their product.

A certified kitchen can provide individuals with the opportunity to do just that.

The idea was brought forward in the course of Dubois County’s engagement in the Indiana State Department of Agriculture’s pilot strategic planning effort in Southwest Indiana.

Our Dubois County Agriculture-Economic Development Committee has done considerable homework on such an initiative and now would like to begin a market analysis to determine potential demand for such a facility.

Please forward the survey to persons in the Dubois County and surrounding areas that you believe might have an interest in utilizing such a facility.
