Pizza
and Perspectives
This week the DCADC staff hosted a pizza party for
Dubois County students attending the University of
Southern Indiana.
The event
was a pilot effort of the DCADC to engage Dubois County
youth who are pursing higher education at
USI. The initial intent of the meeting was
to address brain drain issues by making students aware
that Dubois County values their pursuit of higher
education and wants them to consider career
opportunities in Dubois County (at sometime in
their life).
In the course of the group enjoying pizza, the 50
plus USI students became very engaged and quick to join
in a facilitated discussion, lead by Sue Ellspermann,
Ferdinand native and USI faculty member. The group
shared perspectives and opinions on why they may or may
not consider returning to Dubois County to pursue their
career interest.
A special thanks to Phil Parker, Director of Career
Services and Placement at USI, for helping bring this
wonderful discussion together.
In light of the success of this engagement, DCADC
intends to visit students at other higher learning
institutions.
